Noah’s Pudding is a sweet food from Turkey. People also call it Aşure.
The Story
A long time ago, there is a story about Noah and his Ark.
When the big flood ended, the Ark stopped on Mount Ararat (this mountain is in Turkey now). Noah and the people on the Ark wanted to celebrate. They did not have much food left. They took all the food they had — grains, beans, dried fruits, nuts — and cooked them together. It became a sweet, thick pudding.
Ingredients
Today
People in Turkey still make this pudding. They often make a lot and share it with neighbors and friends. It is a symbol of peace and friendship.
Connection with Ukraine
Noah’s Pudding is not from Ukraine. But Ukraine has a special Christmas dish that is a little similar — it is called kutia. Kutia is also made from grains, sweet things, and sometimes nuts. But kutia does not have beans and is usually simpler. Both dishes are sweet, made from grains, and eaten for special reasons.
